Live Out Loud is passionate about connecting LGBT youth with positive role models. Our Lance Black’s Homecoming Project video brings this Academy Award® winner to your school to encourage LGBT youth with a powerful message of hope. Use Lance’s Homecoming Project video in conjunction with these lesson plans to get your students talking about what it’s like to be a sexual minority, why it’s important to both find and be a role model, and what myths exist within the LGBT community.

Every February, the New York City Department of Education organizes “Respect for All” week, an initiative that helps students respect their peers of different races, ethnicities, religions, gender identities, gender expressions, and sexual orientations. Live Out Loud has developed these activities, actions, and discussion guides to help your group promote respect for the LGBT community.

These “Grassroots GSA” activities will help students start their own gay straight alliances outside of school. Any time a two or more LGBTQ and allied youth come together it can be considered a GSA. We want these youth to have the help they need to jumpstart their own GSA!

As a celebration of Harvey Milk’s birthday, we’ve designed these resources to help students learn about the life of Harvey Milk and gain inspiration through examples of his activism. These discussion guides and actions highlight the ways Milk shaped the gay rights movement in the US. We hope that the youth of today will be inspired to continue Milk’s legacy of social justice work in their communities and schools through learning about Harvey Milk’s life!
